Proprietary and Confidential Page 6-1
6. Managing Email Protection Inbound Policy
6.1. Email Protection Policy Actions
Email messages violating the rules identified in the policy may have the following action taken,
depending on the policy filtering option.
Quarantine – places the message in Quarantine
Tag – delivers the message to the recipients mailbox, with the subject line tagged with the
violation name (Spam or content)
Deny Delivery – denies delivery of the message; not delivered, viewable or retrievable.
Note: Deny Delivery does not initiate a bounce back to the sending MTA.
Do Nothing- ignore all policy actions; allow delivery, however is logged on the Threat Report
Silent Copy – delivers a blind carbon copy (bcc) of the message to the recipients listed in the
distribution list
Strip Attachment – removes the attachment and delivers the email body only
Clean – removes any viruses and delivers the email body only
Applying Changes
When making a change to a policy, the Save button must be clicked on each tab on which a change
was made and should be saved. If the “X” (close policy) button is selected and changes have been
made but not saved, the service displays a reminder pop-up message identifying which pages must
be reopened and saved.
In this example, you must return to the Virus and Attachment tabs, open the page and click the
SAVE button.
Note: Changes are retained when navigating from tab to tab, however they are not saved until
you click the Save button.
6.2. Policy Configuration Overview
The McAfee Email Protection Service will perform actions on messages sent to your domain, based
on the rules identified in the Inbound Policy Set(s). Every user is automatically associated with the
Default Inbound filtering policy when their account is created.
The default Policy has pre-defined selections, which can be edited. The only action that is not
allowable on the default Inbound policy set is delete.
